A Funny Way To Approach Fear, Anxiety and Perfectionism (New Podcast Episode)

your anxiety toolkit

Hey there Folks! I am so pleased to join you again on this beautiful day.

This week's episode of YOUR ANXIETY TOOLKIT is just for you if you struggle with the fear that things need to be perfect, or that bad thing will happen if you don't do them in the "right way".  Does that describe you, at all?

I am constantly talking with my clients about radical self-acceptance.  Radical Self Acceptance is Accepting yourself as you are and just being you.  But, often clients will look at me with a blank face and ask, "but how?"

In this episode, I share with you my ALL TIME favorite tool to manage perfectionism and vulnerability avoidance.  It is in no way evidence-based or a clinical tool, but it is mine and I LOVE IT!

The Tool is called, Whack it Together!!!!!! (Yes, I purposely put all of those exclamation marks there).

Here are the steps to Whacking It Together:

  1. Put aside your fears
  2. Put aside the need to be perfectionistic
  3. Focus your eye on the thing you value
  4. Lead with courage

Here are some examples of how this mindset has helped me.

  •  CBT school or this podcast would NEVER have been made if I didn't "Whack It Together"
  • I would not get to spend as much time with my kids if I didn't "Whack together" meals, cleaning, emails, IKEA tables (insert the sound of my laughing here).

Here are some examples of how "Whacking it Together" has helped my clients

  • Many of my clients have reported that "Whacking it together" allowed them to do their exposures imperfectly.
  • Clients have reported that they were able to hand in homework assignments without staying up ALL NIGHT and still get an excellent grade
  • Clients have reported that "whacking it together" made them realize that they don't have to always be the ones working the hardest.

The benefits are GREAT and include improved self-care, increased self-forgiveness for not being perfect,  and my favorite, radical self-acceptance of ourselves.

Go check out the episode and I will walk you through how to practice this tool.
